Foxborough’s Train Station Getting Major Upgrade Ahead of 2026 World Cup
Foxborough, MA – August 2025 — Big changes are coming to Foxboro Station as the town gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With Gillette Stadium set to host multiple matches during the international tournament, the MBTA is moving forward with major improvements to handle the expected crowds.
The biggest change? A new full-length high-level platform is being built, making it easier and faster for fans to board and exit trains. There are also plans to add a temporary second platform, giving the station more flexibility during large events.
MBTA officials say these upgrades are necessary to meet the increased demand, with more than 20,000 fans expected per match day. The improvements are designed not only for the World Cup, but also to benefit commuters long after the final whistle blows.
Construction is expected to ramp up in late 2025 and continue through early 2026, with the goal of being fully operational before the first World Cup match at Gillette Stadium.
Foxborough town leaders have welcomed the project, saying it reflects the town’s growing role as a regional hub for sports, entertainment, and transit. Once completed, the station will offer smoother service, better accessibility, and a better experience for both locals and visitors.
