Residents in Mansfield, Massachusetts, should plan for ongoing construction along East Street as a significant road improvement project continues through mid-August 2025. This project, stretching from Branch Street to Hope Street, is part of the town’s broader Complete Streets initiative, aimed at improving safety, accessibility, and traffic flow for both drivers and pedestrians.

Project Timeline and What’s Included

The Department of Public Works began the work in late June. The project is being completed in phases to minimize disruption while still moving forward on schedule.

  • Shoulder excavation began in late June to prepare for new infrastructure.

  • Sidewalk installation is scheduled to begin the week of July 7. Crews may also work on Saturdays if needed to stay on schedule.

  • Road milling is expected to begin on or around August 11 to remove the current surface.

  • The final stages will include paving, striping, and landscaping, with completion anticipated before the new school year begins.

Construction is taking place Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During those hours, East Street will be closed to through traffic.

What This Means for Mansfield Residents

Homeowners on East Street will continue to have access to their driveways, although there may be brief interruptions during active work. Trash pickup and mail delivery will not be affected.

Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to use posted detour routes. Signs will be clearly marked, and residents are urged to follow instructions to keep traffic moving safely.

Why the Project Matters

East Street is a well-traveled route for families, commuters, and school buses. The improvements will enhance pedestrian safety with new sidewalks and improve traffic flow with smoother pavement and better-curb alignment. The project supports Mansfield’s long-term infrastructure goals and contributes to a more walkable and accessible community.

Staying Informed

For the latest updates or questions about the construction schedule, residents can contact the Mansfield Department of Public Works at 508-261-7336 or visit the town’s official website.

The temporary inconvenience will lead to long-term improvements that benefit everyone who travels through East Street.
