If you drive an electric vehicle (EV) or have ever wondered what a “Level 3 fast charger” means, you’re in luck—Wrentham just made enthusiasm for clean transportation a little more convenient. The town recently unveiled four Level 3 EV chargers in the center parking lot, and it’s a move with both immediate benefits and a nod toward a greener community future.

Fast Charging, No Strings Attached

As of June 2025, Wrentham officially opened its four new Level 3 EV charging stations at the Center Parking Lot, located at the corner of Dedham and Franklin Streets (5 Dedham Street). These aren’t your average chargers—Level 3 (also called DC Fast Charger or DCFC) can juice up compatible EVs to 80% in around 30 minutes, making them ideal for quick top-offs or grabbing groceries while you power up.

A Cost-Free Win for the Town

Here’s the really good news: The project cost Wrentham absolutely nothing. Thanks to a generous donation from East Coast Renewable Energy—and its partner Inovis Energy—installation was handled entirely off the town’s budget. National Grid sweetened the deal with incentive support, making the charging hub not just possible but financially sound.

Even better, all proceeds from the chargers feed into a special revolving fund—designed to cover energy costs, maintenance, and upkeep—so this is a self-sustaining feature, not a budget sink.

Expansion Already in Motion

Wrentham isn’t stopping there. Another EV charging project is in the works at Town Hall, with plans for two more Level 2 chargers to be added later this summer. It’s clear that clean-energy infrastructure is becoming a norm, not a novelty, in town planning.

Why This Matters to You

  • Drivers rejoice. Fast, convenient charging means you can run errands or grab a coffee while your car powers up—not wait around.

  • It’s a sustainable success story. Zero taxpayer burden and self-supporting operations make for a model not just in clean energy, but civic responsibility.

  • Progress made visible. For towns thinking about going green: here’s a real example of collaboration paying off.
