Wrentham recently secured nearly one million dollars in federal funding to enhance its water system and support future growth.

The town received a $959,752 grant through the FY 2024 Community Project Funding Program, thanks to efforts led by U.S. Representative Jake AuchinclossThis program is part of a larger federal effort to invest $58.2 billion in energy and water development, with $10 billion allocated specifically for improving drinking water infrastructure.

The grant will go toward finding and developing a new public water source on the west side of town, most likely within the Blackstone River Watershed. By adding this third water supply, Wrentham hopes to address current water needs and support future development. Town officials also believe that a new source will help reduce pressure on the Charles River and Taunton Watersheds, improving water quality and increasing pressure in the overall system.

Town Manager Kevin Sweet explained that this project is about more than just pipes and pumps. He emphasized the town’s commitment to ensuring every resident has reliable, high-quality drinking water while planning responsibly for growth.

Environmental Partners, Inc. will work with the Town to pinpoint the best locations and methods for the infrastructure upgrades. Town officials also expressed their appreciation to Representative Auchincloss for securing the federal funds.
